An evil version of the tooth fairy?
I remember being 19 years old and having my wisdom tooth (yes, I said tooth. I only had one) and it being an uncomfortable situation, but nothing as bad as say having a root canal done. Well, now days I guess that they do a really good job of making you comfortable when you have wisdom taken out. Case in point, my 16 year old son had his taken out this morning. Now, he had two removed and they got him in and done in less than 45 minutes. Not too shabby. I got called back to the back of the office to talk to the oral surgeon and there lays my son all passed out, gauze sticking out of his mouth. I guess they sedate them now days for these kinds of things, along with the normal numbing medication that they stab you with. How nice is that?
So the surgeon tells me everything went fine, shows me how to change the gauze, what to watch for, what he can and can’t eat, when he can go back to school, et cetera. ‘Pull your car around the back of the building and he can go home’. Wow. I was figuring on being here most of the day actually, had settled into my chair in the lobby, watching ‘Headline News’ on the flat screen that they have. Oh, well.
Get my son in the car and shut the door for the ride to Walgreens to get his meds and he is talking, “Mmmff, tamm we da fooooo’ I have become very skilled in understanding gibberish and baby talk, so I figure that this is something I can deal with and possibly understand. I am thinking, “Mom can we get food?”, I ask him and he nods, I won’t go in to the wonderful conversation that we had after that because I don’t think I would be able to type it all out. So I get some soft food (Doctor says he can eat), sherbet and his prescriptions. Now, remember, he is medicated and the entire time we are in the car he is having a conversation with me that is pretty much one sided because no matter how good I think I am at understanding, he is finding words that are not in my normal gibberish vocabulary.
Needless to say, he is doing well, resting and I am sure that once the meds wear off and the pain sets in he will be hating that surgeon. Oh, but look on the good side, they gave me his wisdom teeth so that the tooth fairy can come. If you say so… >:)
We just went through oral surgery with my 13 year old, although it was not wisdom teeth, she had four teeth pulled and one exposed in the roof of her mouth per her orthodontist. She did very well, but I broke out in hives in the waiting room. LOL!
Have a Great Day!
